WHAT IS MAYA ABDOMINAL THERAPY:
Deeply rooted in the traditions of the Maya people and passed down from traditional healers, Maya Abdominal Therapy restores biochemical and bio-mechanical balance to the body. This oft overlooked part of the human anatomy contains organs related to digestion and reproduction that are crucial to our health and well being. By addressing this area with gentle, external, non-invasive, yet focused soft tissue work, we can guide the organs into their optimal position thereby increasing blood flow, lymph drainage and the movment of prana or chi to the organs thus making them healthier and happier.
The lower back and hips are also addressed and very client learns a self care routine to use at home to continue the benefits of this work. Our practitioners have personally seen improvement in many digestive and reproductive conditions with the application of this treatment. This therapy can be used to maintain optimum health or to support the following concerns: Menstrual conditions, adhesions, scarring, infertility, SMALL ovarian cysts and fibroids, endometriosis, perimenopausal and menopausal symptoms, constipation, PMS, GERD, IBS, Crohn's disease, as well as a myriad of other digestive disorders. Several of our clients have had successful pregnancies after years of trying to conceive following this work. We are the only clinic in Flagstaff that offers Maya Abdominal Therapy.

"After several miscarriages, Kristina performed Mayan Abdominal Massage to break up scar tissue from my previous pregnancy. She coached me on how to treat myself at home between our appointments. I have no doubt that it played a major role in my second successful pregnancy. Highly recommend!" - Michelle M.

WHAT TO EXPECT WITH MAYAN ABDOMINAL THERAPY:
- We'll start your initial session with a thorough intake. This may take up to 1/2 an hour. Your practitioner will go over your health history and ask questions about conditions and current treatments and address your concerns.
- Plan on undressing to your underwear.
- Your practitioner will use gentle yet focused pressure on your abdomen, back and hips. Please offer feedback if the pressure is ever uncomfortable to the point of pain. Even if you are used to massage, this therapy involves several unusual techniques to address structural imbalances and to reposition organs. Let go and relax. Your practitioner is well trained in these techniques. We work as low as the pubic bone with this therapy.
- Our therapists may use an aromatherapy blend or analgesic balm. Please inform us of any sensitivities to scents.
- You will be shown how to perform a self care massage on your self as part of your treatment so you understand how to do the techniques. You will also receive a handout to take home with instructions for this routine. Using it regularly will continue the work that your therapist has started.
- The abdomen is an emotional storage unit. Be prepared that you may feel emotionally tender after a session. Pay attention to your feelings and take care of yourself after your session.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR MAYAN ABDOMINAL THERAPY:
- Fill out your digital intake forms ahead of your session. This allows your therapist to prepare.
- Communicate thoroughly during your intake so your therapist knows everything she needs to know.
- Reschedule your appointment if you start your period.
- Eat lightly before your session and drink some water but not too much so as not to interrupt the session with a bathroom break.
- Avoid caffeine, drugs and alcohol before your session.
- Use the restroom before your session.
- Be sure to plan some time for self care after your session. It is not ideal to return to work or family right after a session. Plan a gentle walk, find a quiet spot to drink a cup of tea, or prepare a nourishing meal for yourself.
