What is Thai Massage:
Performed with the client fully clothed and on a floor mat with no lotion or oil, Thai massage is the original Assisted or Facilitated Stretch Therapy. With its foundation in Ayurvedic and Indian medical traditions, Thai massage dates back 2500 years and incorporates the philosophy of "meta" or compassion/loving kindness.  As well has being a fantastic way to relax, Thai massage is also intended to promote well being and restore balance to the body.

During a Thai massage session therapists use their hands, feet, elbows, knees etc. to stretch and apply pressure to specific points along the energy lines of the body with either rhythmic or static movements. It is designed to improve flexibility, relieve muscle soreness, and boost energy by manipulating the body's energy lines. Because some of this work can be rather deep, it is ideal for those wanting deeper pressure and is wonderful for athletes looking to improve their performance.

Here at NAZMW, our therapists practice Dynamic Thai massage, a style of Thai massage that uses continuous, flowing movements, such as rocking, waving, and gentle stretching, to release tension and restore a sense of natural rhythm and balance,Focuses on fluid, rhythmic, and often water-based movements, creating a "sacred dance" feeling. Check out the videos below to see how it's done. Our Sole Soother Boost can be added to pamper your tootsies.

What to expect with Thai Massage?
  • Your Thai therapist will do an intake to determine the best way to work with you and the appropriate poses and techniques to use.
  • You will be fully clothed and no oil or lotion is used
  • Your Thai therapist will use lots of different "tools" to perform the treatment including, hands, knees, elbows, forearms and feet (don't worry they are washed well before the session).
  • You will be moved around a lot by your therapist. It is important to just let go and let them move you. Occasionally they may give you instructions to assist but for the most part you are expected to just relax.
  • Be sure to speak up if anything is uncomfortable.
How to prepare for Thai massage?
  • Fill out your digital forms before you arrive for your session.
  • Wear loose, stretchy clothing
  • Plan on exercising before hand, a light stroll afterwards is fine but no big workouts.
  • Avoid caffeine, drugs and alcohol before your session.
  • Don't eat a large meal before your session, a light snack if you need to eat something is the most you should eat.
  • Drink water before and after your session.
  • A session in our infrared sauna is ideal before Thai massage to warm the muscles.
